Atheros Demonstrates Latest Mobile WLAN, Bluetooth and GPS Innovations at Mobile World Congress Company’s Industry-Leading Connectivity Technologies Enable Customers to Create ‘There is Here’ User Experiences with Mobile Products MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, SPAIN, Feb. 12, 2010 — Atheros Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHR), a global leader in innovative technologies for wireless and wired communications, is showing its latest mobile technologies, connectivity features and applications at the 2010 Mobile World Congress (MWC). Atheros’ demonstrations will take place in its booth located at Fira de Barcelona, Hall 2, Ground Floor, #2B53 in Barcelona, Spain. Atheros is showcasing some of the industry’s smartest mobile connectivity technologies, including WLAN, Bluetooth® and GPS solutions that enable its customers to build products and applications that connect, share and work with ease. Atheros’ mobile portfolio provides seamless connectivity that moves content from ‘there’ to ‘here’ in a way that is transparent to the user. As an industry leader in connectivity technologies, Atheros’ goal is to change the very frame of reference for ‘there’ so that now, ‘There is Here™’. Atheros will be demonstrating its newest mobile solutions that deliver on this commitment, including:
ROCm® with Align™ 1-stream mobile 11n demonstration: For smartphones, mainstream feature phones, mobile gaming devices and other portable CE products, Atheros’ AR6003 family improves upon the industry-leading AR6002 in performance, size, power savings and cost structure, delivering up to 85 Mbps of actual throughput and enhanced rate-over-range. Atheros is demonstrating how this extraordinary mobile WLAN performance is sufficient for HD video and audio transmission to and from mobile devices. The company will also show the AR6003 reduces average receive current consumption by 20 percent over the very low-power AR6002 design, and at faster 11n rates. High Precision Navigation Accuracy demonstration: For personal navigation devices (PNDs), netbooks, smartbooks, mobile gaming devices, media players and smartphones, the new Atheros AR1520 receiver and Atheros FYX™ 1.0 location core enable greater navigation accuracy, faster location fixes, enhanced receive sensitivity and lower power consumption. The AR1520’s best-in-class navigation accuracy will be shown versus competitors in some of the world’s most challenging GPS road tests– including urban canyons, where the view to positioning satellites is largely obstructed. The unique dual-engine design of the Atheros FYX location core utilizes a dedicated tracking engine, resulting in reliable navigation when you need it most – in crowded, densely populated urban canyons where most competitors’ GPS receivers provide bad directions. Align 1-stream mobile WLAN and ROCm Bluetooth combo demonstration: For netbooks, smartbooks, eBook readers, mobile gaming devices and portable media players (PMPs), the new Atheros AR6133 (a smart combination of the Align 1-stream 11n and Bluetooth solution) significantly expands functionality to enhance the mobile computing and communications experiences. The solution brings together two of the most popular connectivity technologies for mobile products and goes beyond coexistence to offer a high level of cooperation between co-located Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G radios using Atheros Universal Wireless Cooperation™ technology.
